Tuesday Read The Great Game in Chapter 3.
Do Map Work p 12: 1. Dost Mohammad Khan was a soldier who managed to take control of the largest, most important city in Afghanistan. Label this city, in green, on your map. 2. Remember that the first move in the Great Game came from Russia. In blue, label that country that was, at first, allied with Russian in an invasion of western Afghanistan. 3. Many moves later in the Great Game, Dost Mohammad and his army had to flee from the Indian-British army. Draw a red arrow from Kabul into the area to which he fled. 4. Dost Mohammad added the city of Kandahar to his kingdom, and he gave it to his son to rule. In green, label Kandahar on your map. 5. Dost Mohammad kept his word to the British, and he did not interfere when the Sepoy Mutiny broke out. Remember that the Indian governor of Bengal began to grow nervous about a certain large settlement of Englishmen. It was becoming more and more powerful, and looking like an English city.
