Tuesday Read The Thirty Years’War, 1618-1648 in Chapter 9 of The Story of the World. After the first reading, give a narration to a parent. After the narration, answer the questions in the History Notebook Optional: Color Page 28. Gustavus himself led the Swedish army against Ferdinand’s army. Remember to color his hair blond. Wednesday Do the Map Work for Chapter 9: 1. Fill in the key in the upper left corner of the map. Color the "against Ferdinand" box red. Color the "for Ferdinand" box blue. 2. England, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands had many Protestants who were willing to fight against Ferdinand. Color these lands red (down to the dotted line below Prague.) 3. Ferdinand had control of Germany, and he had allies in Spain. Outline the borders of the Empire and Spain in blue, then shade them lightly in blue. 4. Ferdinand and his forces pushed back the army led by Christian IV. Draw three blue arrows from the Empire up into the Netherlands. 5. In Sweden, Gustavus II saw what happened to Christian IV's army and decided to attack. Draw two black arrows from Sweden down into "The Empire". 6. Richelieu in France saw that Ferdinand had been weakened by the war, and he also decided to fight against Ferdinand. Outline the border of France in red. Then draw three red arrows from France into the Empire. 7. Even after the peace treaty, Spain and France continued to fight. Draw two red arrows from France into Spain (which should have blue borders). Thursday On Thursday Buttress Days, students will be completing various activities that add to the weekly reading. They will also continue the timeline. Add any activities this week about this chapter. Friday Take Test over Chapter 7 & 8 Parent Responsibility: Make sure that the student has completed his/her homework.
