Grammar will consist of several components: grammar, writing, spelling, vocabulary, dictation, and journaling. Grammar: Grammar assignments will be made each week and can be found in the book. Tests will be given after every five lessons. Spelling: Each week a list of about 20 spelling words will be given. Students are to study the words for a spelling test to be given on Friday. A practice test will be given on Thursday. If you get them all correct, you do not need to retake the test on Friday. Vocabulary: Vocabulary words will be given each week and students are to write the words and their definition in their notebook. You will use this to study for a quiz that will be given on Thursdays, every other week. Words can be found in your Grammar & Writing book. Dictation: Dictation paragraph is to be copied in your notebook before Thursday of the assigned week. The copied paragraph in your journal will be part of your grade. On Thursday, the paragraph is to be dictated by the teacher (or homeschooling parent) while the student writes it on a separate piece of paper to be handed each week. Journaling: Journals are to be completed in your notebook. These will be graded each 9 week period, along with the dictations and vocabulary words. Writing: Students will have weekly writing assignments. Assignments will be made from their Grammar and Writing workbook. You will be working on persuasive (opinion) and expository (informative) writing. Please sign that you have read and understand what will be covered in Grammar.
